The Sufficiency and Supremacy of Christ in Counseling

The International Association of Biblical Counselors exists to proclaim Christ, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus (Colossians 1:28). With our headquarters in Colorado and Member Services in Missouri, IABC has been serving the church since 2000.

Our desire is to allow for freedom of convictions on doctrinal matters provided that any interpretation is based on the Bible alone and that no such interpretation shall become an issue that hinders the ministry of biblical counseling to which God has called us. We desire to avoid doctrinal extremes and maintain a balanced leadership team seeking to be doctrinally sound, shying away from the present day extremes. "...that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting." Eph. 4:14

A CMEU (Continuing Ministry Education Units) training is designed to provide ongoing professional education and development for individuals in specific fields, such as counseling, ministry, or healthcare. CMEUs help professionals maintain their certifications or licenses and stay up to date with the latest knowledge and practices.

No prerequisites are required. The training is designed to be accessible for learners at all levels, whether you're just starting in biblical counseling or looking to deepen your expertise.

The course includes around 21 hours of transformative lecture material, taught by leading experts in Biblical Counseling, designed to equip and enrich your understanding.

No, there’s no required reading. All the training is delivered through pre-recorded sessions, making it simple and accessible—just press play and learn at your own pace.

The training is pre-recorded, giving you complete flexibility to learn at your own pace. Once you log in to your dashboard, all materials are immediately available, allowing you to dive in whenever it fits your schedule. Whether you want to binge-watch sessions or take it slow—pausing for a coffee break whenever you like—the choice is entirely yours.

This course equips you with valuable skills and knowledge as a biblical counselor and counts toward Continuing Education Units (CEUs) if you’re already an IABC Certified Biblical Counselor (CBC). However, it is not designed to replace the full certification process, which includes the 50-hour practicum as a separate requirement. Your prior training from may complement this course, and we’d encourage you to connect with your Certified IABC Training Center for guidance on how it applies to your certification path. They can provide tailored advice based on your background.

The training program is only for the Continuing Ministry Education Units (CMEUs) required for maintaining certification. You will still need to renew your Annual certification which costs $99 for IABC. Additionally, when you enroll in the training program, this will satisfy your obligation to participate in an IABC annual conference.

The $97 covers the entire course, not individual classes. It’s a one-time fee for the complete training, making it an accessible way to grow in your counseling ministry.

The conference is entirely online and pre-recorded, so there’s no in-person event. This format gives you the flexibility to access the sessions from anywhere and learn at your own pace.

The time commitment required to maintain your IABC certification is just one hour per month—a small but meaningful investment in your ministry and professional development. 

We understand that everyone has busy schedules, family responsibilities, and ministry commitments. However, if you are truly overcommitted to the point that one hour per month cannot be prioritized, it may be a sign that this is not the right season for IABC certification.

If biblical counseling is a priority in your life and ministry, one hour per month is a reasonable commitment—especially considering the eternal impact of growing in biblical wisdom and serving others well.

Flexible CMEU Timeline: CMEUs are designed with flexibility in mind, offering you plenty of time to complete it before the January 2026 deadline. If you take this course, you'll only need to commit to study 1 or 2 hours per month until January 2026 and you'll be able to complete the required CMEU.

Yes, completing CMEUs (continuing ministry education units) like this course is a requirement for renewing your IABC certification. While this has been part of our standards in the past, we haven’t carried it out until now.

Given recent developments in biblical counseling, we’re informing everyone of this step to ensure all IABC Members and Certified Biblical Counselors remain well-equipped and rooted in the sufficiency of Scripture.
